2024 Athletic Hall of Fame Class Announced
The Hopkins Athletic Department and the Hopkins Athletics Hall of Fame Committee are honored to announce the 2024 Hall of Fame Class: Terrie Wisser, Brent & Sue Sebright, Todd Frazee. Each will be honored during Hall of Fame Night on Friday, February 9 between the varsity basketball games vs. Kelloggsville. The Hopkins Athletic Hall of Fame displays plaques of 28 previous inductees along with two Hall of Fame teams.

Alumni Spotlight - Logan Klinge
Logan Klinge is a sophomore at Grand Valley State University (GVSU) and a member of the wrestling team. Grand Valley State University is a member of the NCAA and the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC). The GLIAC includes Davenport University, Ferris State University, Grand Valley State University, Lake Superior State University, Michigan Technological University, Northern Michigan University, Purdue University Northwest, Saginaw Valley State University, Wayne State University, and the University of Wisconsin - Parkside. The 2023-2024 school year marked the first time GVSU offered wrestling as a sport in 30 years. This year, Logan is 3-5 on the mat so far. He is currently ranked 78th in the 133lbs weight class in NCAA Division II wrestling. The Grand Valley State wrestling team is ranked #11 nationally. At Hopkins High School, during his freshman year, Logan recorded 43 wins and 9 losses on the mat, but due to battling some issues

Alumni Spotlight - Matt Reynolds
Matt Reynolds is a junior at Calvin University and a member of their baseball team. Calvin College is a member of the NCAA and the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA). The MIAA includes Adrian, Albion, Alma, Calvin, Hope, Kalamazoo, Olivet, St. Mary’s, and Trine. In his first two seasons, Matt is 3-2 on the mound with a 6.70 ERA. Matt has started 5 games and this past season, pitched a complete game. As a batter, he’s played in 54 games and has 20 hits, one home run and 14 RBI’s. In the field, Matt improved his field percent from .929 as a freshman, to 1.000% as a sophomore with 31 putouts, 10 assists, and only 1 error in two years. At Hopkins High School, Matt is tied for 3rd in a single season record with 36 runs in a season (2021). Alumni Spotlight: Sierra Smith
Our next alumni spotlight is Sierra Smith, a sophomore at Glen Oaks Community College. Sierra is studying criminal justice and psychology, with the hope to become a criminal profiler in the future. Glen Oaks is located in Centreville, MI and is a member of the Michigan Community College Athletic Association. There are 24 schools in the MCCAA and are located from the upper peninsula of Michigan to Indiana. As a freshman, Sierra played in 34 games. She had a .200 batting average, while hitting 3 home runs, 20 RBI's and scoring 23 times. She also had 7 stolen bases. Sierra pitched in 5 games, totaling 33 innings. She had 16 strikeouts and gave up 14 walks for an ERA of 4.03 and a WHIP of 1.64. Alumni Spotlight: Colin Weber
Colin Weber, a 2021 graduate of Hopkins High School is a member of the University of North Carolina - Charlotte 49ers. UNC is a division 1 member of the NCAA and plays in the football bowl series (FBS). The 49ers are members of the American Athletic Conference, which is also home to East Carolina, Memphis, SMU, USF, Temple, Tulane, Tulsa, Wichita State, Florida Atlantic, North Texas, Rice, UAB and UTSA. UNC is coached by Francis "Biff" Poggi. Coach Poggi was part of the University of Michigan football staff in 2021 and 2022 when they won back to back Big Ten Championships. As a redshirt sophomore this past season, Colin played in all 12 games and led the team in receptions (34) and was second on the team in receiving yards (362). On November 11 against the University of Memphis, Colin led the 49ers in receiving with 5 receptions for 117 yards, with his longest being 45 yards. Cayla Szubinski Signs with Davenport University
Cayla Szubinski, a senior at Hopkins High School, has signed with Davenport University to join their girls golf team during the 2024-2025 school year with Coach Loughin! Davenport is a member of the NCAA and is a part of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC). Other members of the GLIAC include Grand Valley State University, Ferris State University and Wayne State University. At Davenport, Cayla plans to study forensic accounting. Cayla is a member of the National Honor Society and the PALS program at Hopkins High School, while also excelling in the classroom with a 3.9 GPA. She was an inaugural member of the girls golf team at Hopkins High School during the 2021-2022 season and has steadily improved through each season to earn all conference honors this fall. This past week, Cayla was recognized by 96.1 The Game as their Meijer Prep Athlete of the Week. Congratulations Cayla!

Hopkins High School Cross Country Coach Announced
HOPKINS, Mich. — The Hopkins High School Athletic Department announced John Wamhoff as its next Varsity Cross Country Head Coach. After graduating from Hopkins High School, John Wamhoff ran cross country and track at Indiana Tech University. Currently, John and his wife live in Plainwell with their two dogs. “We’re excited to bring John back home to Hopkins High School, where he can build on the foundation that Coach Brenner started. John will be a great fit for our program and student-athletes.” said Athletic Director Andrew Mains. The Cross Country season officially starts on Monday, August 7th, 2023.

Hopkins High School Hires New Varsity Volleyball Coach
HOPKINS, Mich. — The Hopkins High School Athletic Department announced Alicia Kent as its next Varsity Volleyball Head Coach. After graduating from Hopkins High School, Alicia began coaching volleyball at Hopkins Middle School. After two years at the middle school level, Alicia was the junior varsity volleyball coach at Hopkins for 15 years. After taking a couple years off, Alicia has been asked with continuing the strong tradition that Coach Wisser has built over the last three decades. “Being a part of the program for the past two decades, Alicia understands the tradition that has been established for Hopkins Viking Volleyball. We’re excited for her to continue and build on the tradition that has been established.” said Athletic Director Andrew Mains. The volleyball season officially starts on Monday, August 7th, 2023, with summer camps and workouts beginning in July.

Athletic Hall of Fame: Class of 2023 Announced
The Hopkins Athletic Hall of Fame will induct three individuals and one team on Friday, January 13th. The 1975 varsity girls basketball team, Lauren Navis, Bill Griffey and Bruce Michael Wilson will be formally inducted during a ceremony between the Varsity Girls & Boys Basketball games against NorthPointe Christian on Friday, January 13th. Since its inception in 2016, a total of 29 student-athletes, coaches, volunteers, and teams have been inducted into the Hopkins Athletic Hall of Fame. Please join us on Friday, January 13th at approximately 7 PM for the induction ceremony. The cafeteria will be set up at 5:30 PM for a meet and greet with inductees, family, friends and any one else who would like to stop by and congratulate the newest inductees.
