Hopkins Athletic Department Update!!
The MHSAA sent out a return to participation memo on Friday detailing the steps required by schools to re-introduce educational athletics. These steps are required by school districts in order to have kids return to activities in their districts. The memo is in the link below.
Summer Camps - As of right now the earliest any summer activity that can be held is on 6/13/20, as that is the day after the governor's stay at home order is lifted. If the stay at home order is extended the first day of of activity would be extended as well. Even when we do get the go ahead from the governor we still may need to extend our start date as we have many requirements that need to be met in order for us to keep kids safe, and we will have to make sure we have those requirements in place before we can allow kids back to school. We are working with the administration as well as our coaches to get these requirements in place so we can start our summer activities as early and as safely as possible.
Summer Camp Registration - At this time it probably would be appropriate to wait and sign up for camps as they happen, we normally do the pre-sign up piece so we can get a sense of the numbers of t-shirts we need to order for the camp, but at this time, we just want to be able to put on the camps, and we can get the other details secured at a later date. Camp information will be available through the athletic department and will be shared through this Facebook page as they become available. Many of our programs also have their own Facebook pages, and I am sure information would be shared through their pages as well.
Fall Sports - If you read through the memo from the MHSAA, you will see there may be some significant changes to our fall sport season, depending on where the state is in regards to the Covid-19 pandemic. School districts will be required to put together a plan in case of an occurrence of Covid-19, with any student at their school, or student that our school has played against. These decisions will be discussed and determined over the next couple months. The ultimate goal is to keep all kids safe and healthy, and our decisions will be made with that at the forefront.
I know this was a long post, but it has a lot of information. If you have any questions that you need answered, please email firstname.lastname@example.org, and I will try and answer those for you at my earliest convenience. This is a first step back to educational athletics, and hopefully we can continue moving in a positive direction.
